Chapter 2: A Digi Disaster

A shuttle zooms through the sky, entering the air space of Teiga, a small country in Europe.

Only a few minutes after entering the country, the shuttle reaches a battlefield. The ground was riddled with bodies and blood, while the skies were filled with ash and the fading remnants of...data?  The Teigan forces had been fighting against a sudden appearance of rouge Digimon for the past 6 days. Queen Mikoto, the leader of Teiga, requested aid from Organization M as her forces were overwhelmed.  Squad 4 (aka Legion) is sent to deal with the threat. Legion is the largest squad of Organization M, serving as the "military force" of the organization.

Legion has been involved in the conflict since day 4, and has made significant progress in pushing back the enemy forces.  The Squad now brings in its Captain and Deputy to the battlefield for the final push. The shuttle lands in a safe zone and the Captain and Deputy exit. The Captain, Angelica Telis, is a young woman in her late 20s with flowing blonde hair. If her serious face wasn't intimidating enough, she's almost always wearing an extravagantly decorated uniform; often making her look like some high level player on an MMO. Telis is a native of Teiga.  However, she spends most of her time in the US with Organization M, possessing dual citizenship.

The Deputy, Derek Buchanan, followed right by her side. With a face just as intimidating as his superior, Derek loyally serves as Legion's second in command.  His white hair and the owl on his shoulder give him an air of mystery. The two leaders approach one of the generals on the battlefield.

"Give me the run down general," said Angelica.

"There is a temple just over that ridge," he replied, "Intel says that the portal is right inside there."

"How close do we need to get to it?" asked Angelica as she turned around back towards the ship. As she spoke an individual walked out and replied to her, "Pretty close," he said, "I may even have to be right next to it."  "Then that's our mission Derek," she said, "Get Mr. Izumi into that temple and protect him until he finishes downloading the anti-virus."

"Yes, Captain," said Derek with a ton of respect for the woman who basically raised him. Angelica had trained Derek in everything it takes to be part of Organization M.
Accepting the loss of his father and taking every bit of training seriously in the last three years has helped Derek become who he is today...a respected soldier and a man of service, of direction and focus.

"I'm going to get you there," he said to Izumi. "On foot."

Derek expected Izumi to be concerned regarding such a vulnerable approach. The young warrior shows no sign of concern towards hide and seek.
"Trust me," said Derek, holding the hilt of the sword safely contained in the sheath on his left hand side.

"Mr. Izumi," said Angelica, "stay behind Derek. Derek, you stay behind the squadron. General, have a squadron flank right behind me. I'll lead the charge and make a path."

"Yes ma'am," replied the General.  The squadron grouped up and followed Angelica into battle.

The enemy army was made up of 4 different digimon;Goblimon, Gazimon,Devidramon, Mekanorimon

As they approached the battle, a group of 7 Goblimon began to attack them.  "Derek," said Angelica "Don't take your eyes of Mr. Izumi."  She then lunged forward towards the oncoming Goblimon, and within mere seconds, she was on the other side of them and they dissolved into data fragments.


"Let's keep moving," she said.

Derek stayed close to Izumi, keeping an eye on him while also trying to spot possible attacking Digimon. They follow Angelica.

Izumi suddenly disappears, falling through a hole in the ground. Derek rushed over to the edge of the hole; it was five feet wide and didn't seem to go too far. Derek slide down to reach Izumi. Making sure Izumi is okay, Derek looked up through the hole; he whistled, calling for the Owl to fly down.
"Hold on tight," said Derek as the Owl arrived. The Owl hovered above Derek and Izumi.
Derek grabbed one of the Owl's talons.
"Trust him," he said.
Izumi took hold of the Owl's other talon, and they were immediately carried upwards through the hole.
"How is he..???"
"It's magic," answered Derek.

On the surface, Derek and Izumi are met by a group of gazimon. These gazimon have no liking for humans, and the idea of humans getting out of their trap certainly ruffles their fur.
Derek unsheathed the sword and strikes a connection against one gazimon as it leaped for him. The sword released a shockwave that knocked the gazimon to the ground.

As the squadron continued to push forward, several Devidramon began to swoop down and snatch soldiers away. Soldiers screamed for help as the Devidramon carried them away.  Several soldiers who were still on the ground began firing at the fleeing Devidramon, but they only managed to take down two of them.  Half of the squadron had been taken out, but the survivors had made it half way across the battlefield.

"We're almost there Derek," said Angelica as she stabbed a Gazimon.  Suddenly another Devidramon swooped in overhead. Angelica covered her face as dust was blown into the air by the creature's massive wings. Devidramon completely passed over Angelica and the other soldiers and landed in front of Derek.  The creature growled and his eyes lit up; his size dwarfing the boy and the owl.  Devidramon lifted his arm above his head. "Look out!" exclaimed Izzy.

"Crimson claw!"

Derek narrowly avoids the first strike of the creatures large claw. He slides on the ground, feeling the power of the Devidramon. It lunged for Derek, this time catching him with a swipe. It was close, but Derek pivots backwards; his vest getting torn by the claw.
The Devidramon dropped the piece of Derek's chest armor and then darted for him. Derek raised his sword, connecting with a shockwave. The Devidramon stood unaffected, continuing to assault the young boy with quick strikes.
The Devidramon swings his tail, Derek jumps on top of a large Boulder and flips in the air to dodge the impact. He lands behind the creature and quickly strikes with the sword and a telekinetic blast.

The blast stunned the beast for a moment.  Angelica took advantage of the situation. Jumping high into the air, she comes down and slashes the monster's head in two. Devidramon then dissipates into data fragments.  

"Are you alright Derek?" asked Angelica.

"Yes, thank you," Derek replied as the owl landed on his shoulder. "let's finish this."
Sword in hand, Derek made sure Izzy was still within their company.

Angelica nodded to Derek and continued onward. They were almost at the temple. The digimon forces were weakening. As they approached the ridge, several Digimon blocked their way. "Uh oh," said Izzy, "Everyone take cover!"

"Twin Beam!" the Mekanorimon all said unanimously as they began firing their lasers at the approaching army. The Legion forces took cover from where ever they could, some getting shot before they could avoid the blasts. "There's nothing between us and the temple except those Mekanorimon," said Izzy, "If we can just pass them, we're set. But that portal is still open. If we don't close it soon, more might come through."

It was difficult for Angelica to hear Izzy with the deafening laser fire, but she got the gist of what he said. "I'll show you guys why they selected me to be the captain of Legion," said Angelica, "A position such as this isn't for mere swordsman." Angelica stood up and jumped out from behind cover. She lifted her sword and it began to glow. "Be gone!!!!!" A bright beam of light came from the sky and evaporated the blockade of Mekanorimon, leaving a crater in the ground.

"To route so many of my men in a single blow is really impressive," said a voice from above. Stingmon hovered above Legion, along with a squad of Gigadramon. "No one human has even made it this far in our lines. You should be honored that you even got my attention."

With most of the Digimon army defeated, Legion pushed forward the temple. "Captain!" exclaimed one of the soldiers, "Six hostiles inbound." Angelica stopped and signaled to the rest of the army hold the advance. The survivors, 17 swordsmen, 20 gunman, and 4 tanks + Angelica, Derek and Izzy. The army quietly watched the ridge, then suddenly six Digimon came over the ridge.

"Five robot dragons and a bug," said Angelica, "What sort of mess are we in Mr. Izumi?" "Well Digimon are similar to Pokemon in that they have multiple forms. But Digimon have 6 basic forms ranging from Baby to Mega. The bug is Stingmon, he's a Champion like many of the Digimon we've been fighting. But those other ones are Gigadramon, they're Ultimate levels; stronger than any Digimon we've fought out here so far. I don't think what's left of your forces can take out this many Ultimate levels."

Angelica looked towards Derek. "Get Mr. Izumi to the temple," she said. "We'll hold these monsters off as long as we can." Angelica aimed her sword towards the oncoming enemies. "Concentrate your fire on those dragons!"

The tanks and gunman opened fire, releasing a barrage on the Gigadramon. Angelica dashed forward, attempting to engage the Stingmon.

Izzy looked at Derek. "There's no way they can take these guys without more fire power," he said, "If you get me to the portal, I think I can get them some help before I close it."

Stingmon turned to his Gigadramon squadron. "You two!" he pointed in a commanding tone, "handle that washed up has-been of a Digi-Destined and his bodyguard, do NOT let them get to the gate. The rest of you, wipe out the remains of their sad little army, but don't lay a claw on HER." Stingmon pointed at Angelica, a slight air of excitement and intrigue in his voice. "She's mine."

"You heard the captain, let's get moving!" barked one of the Gigadramon. Three of them blocked the onslaught, creating a wall from their armored wings. the remaining two went after Izzy and Derek. "Open fire!!" Stingmon shouted, as he made a dash toward Angelica and what was left of her squad. The Gigadramon opened up and fired their own barrage as they shouted in unison "Genocide Gear!!" missles rained down everywhere around Stingmon, taking out most of the gunmen and destroying two tanks, one left in critical condition.

Stingmon dashed through their swordsmen, skewering and slashing them in one sweep with his Spiking Strike as he made a beeline for Angelica

"Crap!" said Angelica as she saw two Gigadramon leave the pack and pursue Izzy and Derek. She had hoped they'd be distracted by the remaining forces, but they were too smart for that. The Stingmon knew exactly what they were trying to do.  Speaking of the Stingmon...Angelica quickly turned her attention to the giant bug charging through her crowed of swordsmen directly at her.

Her sword began to glow brightly and she aimed at the oncoming attacker. She waited until he nearly reached her, and then... "Take this!"
A blast of light energy was fired from her sword at point blank range.


Izzy had his laptop open as him and Derek sprinted up the ridge. He opened up a window and Tentomon was on screen.  "Greetings Izzy, I was actually just about to contact you about something suspicious" said the Digimon. "Tentomon," replied Izzy, "We have a problem here and I need to bring you through a portal fast! We've got some evil Digimon here." "Oh dear," replied Tentomon, "Our issues may be connected."  "Just be ready," said Izzy, "I'll be near the portal soon." Izzy turned his head and noticed two of the Gigadramon pursuing them. "Oh no!"

Back by the shuttle, the general stood watching the battle from afar with his binoculars. His years of battle and old age made him unfit for combat, but he continues to operate on the field to command units, unless of course a higher ranking officer is present. Having greeted Angelica and Derek upon their arrival, he's been watching from afar for a while.  Seeing the Gigadramon attack, it was clear that the tide of the battle had been turned in the enemy's favor. He had to do something to help.  He looked back at the shuttle for a moment, and then boarded it.

Derek sees the approaching Gigadramon. He holds his sword at chest length, willing Izzy to push forward as he follows. Acting as a barrier between Izzy and the incoming Gigadramon, Derek releases a telekinetic push to slow down the evil Digimon.

"Keep going! I will not be far behind!" he yells out to Izzy, who showed hesitation.
Right behind Izzy, Derek wills him forward, while meeting the sword with a Gigadramon.
A sense of urgency causes Derek to focus on getting Izzy to that temple, even if it's a mad dash. The Gigadramon won't tolerate being pushed back for long.

In an instant, Stingmon moved out of the range of the attack, suddenly appearing behind Angelica.
"Too slow," mocked Stingmon, as he spun around with a powerful kick to the ribs and sends her flying back and into the ground. "You'll have to do better than that if you want to best me."

the two Gigadramon began to quickly close in, and decided to dash in with a Guilty Claw attack

Stingmon’s kick sent Angelica flying across the ground. She didn’t realize just how fast Stingmon was. As she struggled to her feet, she felt the searing pain of a bruised rib cage. If it wasn’t for her armor, she certainly would’ve had several broken ribs.

“I’ve never seen something his size move that fast,” she thought. Out of the 17 swordsman, 5 remained alive. They surrounded the Stingmon on all sides. Angelica, still gasping for breath after Stingmon’s attack, approaches them. “You know an enemy like this is way out of you all’s league right?” “Of course we do,” replied one of the soldiers, “We’re no match for anyone who can go toe to toe with you Captain.” “But we won’t let you fight him alone,” another soldier chimed in, “We’re with you till the end.”
“Well then...let’s do this right,” she said, “Formation 5!” Suddenly the 5 soldiers began running in a circle around Stingmon.

The general started up the ship and immediately sent a message to Queen Mikoto of Teiga, notifying her of the current situation. He then took off, heading in the direction of Derek and Izzy.

"Get to the portal!," Derek yelled as he faced the incoming assault.
Derek positions himself the best he can, studying the path route. He slides low to the ground in order to dodge one of the dragon's strike, but the force of impact derailed Derek's momentum. He is struck by the other gigadramon's claw, the impact hard enough to slam him into the ground.

"I think we need that help now," Derek called out to Izzy, having felt a bone snap out of place.
He doesn't reveal the weakness by holding onto his shoulder. Training has given Derek instincts to hide injuries and weaknesses, fight through the pain. He keeps watch on the gigadramon stalking him as he picks up his sword, ready for another round. The owl flutters above Derek, who closes his eyes and whispers... meditating during this chaos. The Owl's eyes glow green, as Derek taps into the spirit of nature through the owl, gathering energies to restore his strength.

"I'll let you in on a secret, girl," Stingmon said to Angelica, "There's a reason why a Champion level digimon like me has command over these Gigadramon."

he then began to spin around himself, wind picking up speed all around him and wrapping around his body. "Spinning Spiking Strike!!" The wind turned into a tornado, which expanded, and turned the winds razor sharp and sliced at each of the swordsmen.

The swordsman, all waiting for the slightest movement from Stingmon, instantly lunged at him from all sides. Stingmon’s attack, however, broke through their swords and managed to kill all of them. One soldier out of the five didn’t lunge from the side, he jumped into the air during the menuever. The soldier threw down a small canister that exploded into a cloud of blinding smoke. Without waisting any time, Angelica’s sword lit up and she lunged towards the twister as the smoke was starting to clear; sword pointed forward to stab.

The general’s ship approached the ridge. “May not be much,” he said, “but it’ll do.” The ship, although primarily made for transport, was fitted with a laser cannon. Angelica felt every ship should at least have a basic weapon, so Legion doesn’t have a single unarmed ship. As he got close enough, the general took a deep breath and opened fire on the Gigadramon attacking Derek and Izzy.

Stingmon halted his attack and caught Angelica's with his spike blades. "The reason is," he continued, "no one digimon, Ultimate or otherwise, has ever gone up against me and lived to tell it." Stingmon headbutted Angelica in the face, and brought his knee up to the same exact spot he kicked her in before to knock her back. "I'm a warrior and an assassin. I know precisely where to attack someone to bring them down. If I wanted to, I'd have killed you from the beginning. But you intrigue me, human, so I'll humor you and let you show off what a warrior like yourself can do.."

As he began to walk towards her, he noticed a ship flying towards the direction of the portal, opening fire on something.
"Dammit," he muttered, and turned to the other three Gigadramon that was still with him. "I need two more of you to regroup with the others and take down that ship!" Without hesitation, two of them flew towards the ship's direction.

Meanwhile the two attacking Gigadramon were ready to strike again at Derek and Izzy, when...
"The heck is that?!?" One of them turned to see a ship priming its weapon in their direction. "Get out of the way!!" the other exclaimed, as they moved in opposite directions as the laser fired.

Restored to full strength, Derek prepared to engage in combat with the Gigadramon when a ship appeared, and fired from its Laser cannon on the Gigadramon.
Derek channeled energy into the sword, releasing a blast through the tip of the blade, going for one of the Gigadramon.

Angelica dropped her sword and lay dazed on the ground. She slowly struggles to get up, barely able to hear Stingmon’s words over the ringing in her ears. Suddenly, as the Stingmon took notice of the general’s ship, the soldier who threw the smoke bomb attempted to stab Stingmon in the back. “Die monster!” he yelled as he lunged towards Stingmon’s back.

Izzy arrived at the peak of the ridge with the temple in sight but the Gigadramon were closing in as Derek was finishing his recovery. Suddenly the ship that transported them here flew in and attacked the Gigadramon. “What the?” he thought, “Who’s piloting that thing?” Izzy continued to push forward, sweat pouring down his face.

Queen Mikoto sat on her throne when she received a message from the General. Mikoto sighed, "I know what I must do." She turns her attention to her tactician Yukimura, "Send out my son's unit to help our allies."

"Oh no you don't," said the Gigadramon about to be attacked by Derek. He took the blast, blocking it with his metal claws and barely leaving a scratch. "You'll have to do better than that, pint-size. Genocide Gear!!" Gigadramon launched his organic missiles, all homing in on Derek.


Stingmon noticed the lone soldier attacking, and snapped his fingers. Suddenly, the Gigadramon that stayed with him swatted the soldier away with his tail. "THIS is Organization M's military force? what a joke," he said in a disgusted tone.

As she came out of her daze, Angelica stood to her feet. She had faced many strong opponents before, but this guy was insane. She reached down to pick up her sword while also wiping blood from her nose. “You dare mock these brave men and women of Organization M?” she said, “You’ll pay for your actions and words on this day. These honorable soldiers will not have died in vain.”

Angelica firmly grasped her sword as it began to glow. Suddenly, she grabbed the tip of the weapon and the glowing energy transferred from the blade to her physical body; creating a super saiyan-like aura around her.

As the General continued to attack, he noticed the Gigadramon staying focused on Derek. One of the monsters prepared to fire an attack, Mr. Izumi was almost at the temple, they only needed a little more time. Without wasting time, the General boosted the speed of the ship, getting it in between Derek and Gigadramon. As the beast fired its attack, the ship was disintegrated.
